Journey from Red Dot --> Open Text

  • in October 2006, OpenText acquired RedDot (as part of its acquisition of Hummingbird Ltd.). To indicate that RedDot was now part of the OpenText family of products, we re-branded it to “OpenText Web Solutions.”

  • In June 2009, OpenText then acquired Vignette Corporation and its Vignette Content Management product. This event created a potential naming conflict, because it would not be clear whether the name OpenText Web Solutions referred to the former RedDot or Vignette product.

  • To reduce the potential of market confusion, OpenText decided to rename the former RedDot product from OpenText Web Solutions to OpenText Web Site Management. At the same time, we decided to rename Vignette Content Management to OpenText Web Experience Management.

While both Web Content Management products, OpenText Web Site Management and OpenText Web Experience Management address different market needs. The two names are designed to communicate the strength of each product and help customers differentiate between them.
